T Slot End Mill

T Slot End Mill: Overview & Key Benefits

Our solid carbide T Slot End Mill series delivers precise, burr‑free T‑slot machining in steel, stainless, aluminum, and other non‑ferrous alloys. Engineered in Changzhou with sub‑micron grinding, these cutters promote clean side walls, reliable chip evacuation, and stable slot‑width control. Standard sizes are in stock, and we also build non‑standard tools to fit your machine and clamping.

How It Works and When to Use

The tool finishes the undercut after a straight slot is opened. A relieved neck reaches beneath the slot, while the side and base cutting edges form the T profile. Use it for fixture tables, precision keyways, and grooves that demand minimal deflection and smooth walls.

Typical Production Applications

  • Machine table T‑slots

  • Die and mold slides

  • Automotive brackets

  • Aerospace panels

  • Precision fixtures

Consistent slot geometry and tight width control help bolts and nuts travel smoothly in T‑slot milling.

Design & Manufacturing

Built from premium micro‑grain carbide, each cutter uses a rigid core and balanced edges. Mirror‑finished flutes reduce friction and improve wall finish. Thermal‑stable grinding on advanced CNC equipment and automated batch control support repeatable results across sizes.

Geometry Advantages

  • Relieved neck options to reach deep undercuts without rubbing

  • Staggered tooth forms to reduce chatter and improve stability

  • Optimized rake and clearance angles for steady cutting loads

  • Reinforced shoulders to hold slot width in deep features

  • Dedicated chip‑flow channels to prevent packing in steel and stainless

Coatings by Material

  • Alloy steels and stainless: TiAlN or AlTiN for heat resistance and wear life

  • Aluminum and non‑ferrous: DLC or polished flutes to curb built‑up edge; aluminum‑optimized options available

  • Cast iron: TiCN for abrasive resistance and consistent width

Custom Solutions Tailored to Your Process

We design and manufacture non‑standard T‑slot cutters to match your material, machine, and holder. Send drawings or samples, and our engineers will tune flute form, neck height, slot width, and shank style to reduce cycle time and cost.

Drawing‑to‑Part Workflow

From concept review through prototyping and pilot batches, we validate geometry on your parts and document stable parameters for repeat orders. ZOLLER presetting and PG1000 video measurement confirm slot width and concentricity before shipment.

Dimensions & Variants

Ranges include T‑width 4–25 mm (0.157–0.984 in), cutting diameter 8–40 mm, neck height 3–20 mm, shank 10–25 mm, and overall length 60–150 mm. Options include center‑cut or non‑center‑cut, coolant‑through, chamfers, and both metric and inch series.

Shank and Holder Compatibility

Cylindrical shanks to h6 tolerance pair with high‑precision collet chuck systems for runout control. Weldon flats are available where pull‑out resistance is required.

Specifications & Recommended Parameters

Select the tool by required T‑width, neck reach, and workpiece material. Maintain rigid toolholding and appropriate coolant to protect the neck and shoulders. Start with the parameters below, then adjust to your machine and setup.

Material‑Based Starting Parameters

  • Aluminum/non‑ferrous: 180–250 m/min, chipload 0.03–0.08 mm/tooth

  • Alloy steel: 60–120 m/min, 0.02–0.06 mm/tooth

  • Stainless steel: 50–90 m/min, 0.02–0.05 mm/tooth

  • Cast iron: 80–140 m/min, 0.02–0.06 mm/tooth

Tolerances and Finish

Typical slot‑width tolerance is ±0.02 mm. Sub‑micron grinding supports mirror‑like walls that help fasteners travel smoothly and reduce deburring.

Toolholding & Setup for Stability

Pair the cutter with a high‑precision collet chuck to minimize runout and vibration. Correct clamping and minimal overhang improve slot quality, tool life, and process reliability.

Machine Compatibility

Suitable for CNC machining centers and milling machines from 3‑axis to 5‑axis. Stable performance on BT‑40/ISO‑40 spindles and above when used with balanced toolholding.

Process Tips

  • Pre‑slot with a standard end mill, then finish the undercut with the T‑slot tool

  • Use single or multiple passes based on required width and material

  • Apply flood coolant or air to clear chips and protect the neck and shoulders

Quality Assurance

Tools are manufactured on Switzerland TTB Micro Grinding machines, German WALTER and DECKEL, and Australia ANCA grinders. Each tool is measured with ZOLLER presetters and PG1000 video systems.

ISO9001 (2023–2026) and SGS certifications support reliable, repeatable slot performance.

Consistency and Batch Reliability

Automated grinding and thermal control promote uniform geometry within batches, ensuring consistent width and neck reach across order lots.

How to Choose and Order

  • Define T‑width, slot depth, and workpiece material

  • Select a coating for the material (TiAlN/AlTiN, DLC/polished, TiCN)

  • Confirm shank type (h6 cylinder or Weldon flat) and holder

  • Specify neck reach and shoulder reinforcement for deep slots

  • Share machine model and spindle to align parameters

  • Contact us to discuss your application or request a quote
